Careers Education and Guidance Programme
The Careers Department provides information, advice and guidance to pupils
at different stages of their school career and is an essential aspect of
school life. Aware of the rapid changes in careers development brought about
by economic and political influences and technological progress the
department constantly monitors the situation, keeping both students and
staff advised of the latest opportunities.
The department has a range of resources to help students make informed
decisions about subject choices, higher education and careers. Here they can
access essential careers and university related information. A wide range
of up-to-date pamphlets and booklets about the requirements for various
careers are provided and are constantly updated.
All students receive formal careers education from form one onwards and
students are given extra help at key transition stages such as choosing
IGCSE and A level subjects and applying to university. The careers staff
and college tutors have input at every stage of a
student’s development.
The careers staff is always available and pupils are encouraged to use the
department to browse through the resources and chat to the staff at their
leisure. They may also obtain careers advice from their tutors or by
appointment with the Head of Careers. A number of events and speakers are
organized throughout the year, as well as specialist advice about areas
such as Medicine, Law, Banking and Finance.
Pupils are urged to consult careers staff before making their final choice of
A level subjects and pupils are encouraged to attend careers events and
university open days.
