Dear Parents

BLOG BY MRS A CHARIDZA - HEAD

SEPTEMBER 2011

It is third term again and the usual end of year activities are well under way. The ABRSM Music examinations start next week in South Africa. The Cambridge programme starts in the second week of October.

Jubilee Celebrations

We wrapped up our Jubilee celebrations over the weekend with a Basketball tournament running from Friday to Sunday morning. Eight schools participated and Watershed came third after Gateway and Prince Edward. On Sunday we had a very successful fair which was well attended. Thank you to all the parents who made it to the College on Sunday. You will never know what you did to your children and the staff. We all enjoyed the day. Thank you also to the parents who sold the raffle tickets for the dairy project. The draw was conducted on Sunday afternoon. For those who did not sell, may I remind you that the tickets will be considered to have been bought by you.

New Appointments

Nyakambiri boys parents will have noticed that Mr. Marere has been acting as the houseparent since the beginning of the term. Mr Manzini stepped down at the end of August. I have appointed Mr Maradzike to the post with effect from October 1st I trust that you will give him the cooperation that will enable him to settle and to run the house effectively. There are two new assistant houseparents; Miss Kamanga for Chinyika girls and Miss Kamupira for Nyakambiri girls. A former student, Mr Mushonga, is assisting with spoken French and drama in the Languages department while he waits to go to University.

Work in Progress

The refurbishments in the hostels are still in progress. Work will be done during fixture-free weekends to minimise the inconvenience to the boys. There is also work being done at the tennis courts. Re-fencing started last week and should be complete by the end of next week. Preliminary work for the installation of the dedicated ZESA line is now at an advanced stage. The amount of load shedding has risen to unsustainable levels, which leaves us with no choice but to move with speed towards the dedicated line. The dairy project will soon be on the agenda. Parents with the relevant expertise and experience are please invited to make an input so that we proceed correctly. Please contact me if you are able to assist. Inter-house swimming gala and Speech Night will be on Thursday 13th October. Please come and support your house and spend the day and the evening with us. Signing out will be after Speech Night only if you attend. A reminder to parents of students in Forms Four and U6 that it was agreed at the parents’ meeting last term that students will not be allowed back into hostel after the mid- term break if the full fees are not paid by then. Please turn to the sport section to get an update on the progress.

Please enjoy the weekend with your children.
