The San is one of the departments at the college. It is functional 24 hours a day. Manned by 2 state registered nurses it caters for all health problems encountered at the college. The
San has a consulting room, an essential drug room for all
essential dugs required for a sick bay, 6 bedded boys and girls’
wards with ablution facilities, a kitchenette and a computer
room /sister’s room. It is also equipped with modern essential
equipment, drugs and sundries for the services provided.
The san sisters work on a rotational basis and are available 24hrs a day to attend to the student’s health problems. The two are housed within the college premises. They attend to minor ailments, emegencies, sports injuries, all chronic conditions eg asthma and offer counseling to students, staff and general workers. All complicated cases are referred to the school doctors who visit the school every Thursday afternoon. Other emergencies are referred straight to Borradaile Hospital in Marondera where the school doctors attend to them promptly. The San has a physiotherapist who offers physiotherapy to the students as required, every Tuesday afternoon. ![]() There is a First Aid Club run by the San sisters for the interested students. The members receive lectures and demonstrations from the sisters with the help of Marvac Ambulance Technicians from Borrodalie Hosp. This term there is a Cadet Training Course for the First Aiders being conducted by MARS ZIMBABWE. This has been organized so that the sisters and first aiders get updated knowledge and skills to carry out their work more efficiently. The first aiders will receive certifies after the course thus boosting their moral. The First Aiders are of great assistance to the San Sisters as they help them manage injuries during sporting activities and also help sick fellow students in hostels by identifying them and bring them to the sister’s attention. The course give student basic health information that will help them during their day to day lives. The San also has 2 Farm health workers who attend to all farm
workers. They carry out baby weights and assessments once a
month, give treatment for minor ailments and give health
education talks to the farm workers. These work hand in hand
with the san sisters. They are supervised by the District
Nursing Officer who also works with the san sisters for any
national immunization programs that come up.
